The ALN includes athlete leaders from Olympic, Paralympic and Commonwealth Games sports and was established as an independent athlete voice mechanism to empower athletes and advocate for change from within the sporting system.
Upon its establishment an interim Board was appointed, and DJ Forbes has since been appointed as the ALN’s General Manager.
Sarah Cowley Ross, an Olympic heptathlete, is the NZOC Athletes’ Commission representative on the ALN Board.
She is joined on the Board by James Arlidge (Rugby), Anna Taylor (Para Cycling), Casey Eden (Softball), Eamon Lui-Fakaotimanava (Water Polo) and Portia Bing (Athletics).
The immediate focus for the Board is to confirm the strategy for the ALN and support the General Manager. The ALN is committed to strengthening athlete voice, developing athlete leaders as well as supporting athlete wellbeing.
