Former Blackcaps Head Coach to help in the development of high performance coaches
Hesson who recently led the Blackcaps through an unprecedented period of success, will join the team on a contract basis in a mentoring capacity to work alongside some of New Zealand’s leading high performance coaches across Olympic, Paralympic and non-Olympic sports.
A member of the HPSNZ’s Coach Advisory Group and an alumnus of the Coach Accelerator Programme (CAP), Hesson will work directly with carded coaches providing one to one support in their preparations towards Tokyo and other pinnacle events.
Confirming the announcement, Hesson commented:
“I am excited by the opportunity to work with some of New Zealand’s leading high performance coaches across Olympic, Paralympic and non-Olympic sports. High performance coaching can be an uncompromising environment and it’s a privilege to help in the development of high performance coaches across the New Zealand system”.
Having recently stepped down as one of the most successful coaches in the history of the Blackcaps, Hesson will now work closely with the HPSNZ Coaching team to identify opportunities for HP coaches to access knowledge and skills that may add value to their programme.
Recognising the critical role of coaching, High Performance Sport NZ Chief Executive Michael Scott said:
“The development of world class coaches is a priority for HPSNZ and this appointment reaffirms our commitment to a coach-led philosophy. Mike brings world class leadership and extensive experience of high performance coaching, in addition to expertise in the areas of building trusted relationships, transforming team culture and performance planning – vital for top level coaching”.
